What do you do at Big Valley Marketing?
I’m a brand journalist, which is a cooler and shorter way of saying I use my newsroom origins and my instincts as an editor and reporter – combined with comms experience in several corners of healthcare and pharma – to help make our clients’ products, programs and people look like a million bucks. Authenticity is huge for me. In order for stories, blog posts, leader op-eds, etc., to be seen as credible, they have to feel honest and relatable. Complex topics need to be made easily digestible, with a human tone and real voices wherever possible. Without these things, you risk losing your audience out of the gate. Finding the right feel is my passion and specialty. With anything I write or edit, my intent is to hook readers and keep them connected until the final sentence, without dangling questions.
Why Big Valley Marketing?
As I’ve moved deeper into my career, I’ve found I have less and less patience for the kind of corporate red tape that inhibits creativity and telling good stories. Companies “getting in their own way” is absolutely a thing. Big Valley is intentionally the opposite, both in its own culture and in what it provides for clients. I was attracted quickly to how real and open the people are here. This is a team of pros who not only are ridiculously good at what they do, but also know how to remove obstacles to build fun, productive relationships.
What’s one thing fun or surprising/unexpected about you?
I love table-top fantasy/imagination games involving dice and miniatures – Dungeons & Dragons and HeroClix, mainly. Is this a surprise? Hmm. Maybe not. I do fit the general physical profile of a gamer nerd.
How’s this? I have one tonsil. When I was a sophomore in college, I developed an abscess that required emergency surgery. They took the bad tonsil and left the other one. I tell my teenage daughters that my head tilts to one side now because of this. They don’t find that even remotely funny.
