What do you do at Big Valley Marketing?
As Head of Talent + Culture, I’m responsible for deploying a people-first HR strategy that serves our business plan and ensures a healthy, inclusive and high-performing culture. Practically, this means I oversee talent acquisition + retention, learning + development, performance management and team benefits + policies.
I spent the first part of my career on the client service side. Because I understand our customers’ and our team’s needs, I’m able to build programs and policies that address both. I do everything I can to clear obstacles so our team can focus on delivering amazing results for clients.
Why Big Valley Marketing?
When I joined the firm eight (!) years ago, I had a client service role. I’ve always found the most satisfaction in recruiting, mentoring, creating teams and working with teams to deliver great outcomes. As the firm grew, I kept taking on operational responsibilities and ultimately put myself in the role I really wanted.
I love having the opportunity to create something new. We strive to maintain a work environment that’s different from what we’ve experienced elsewhere. Something that’s very important to our culture is what we don’t do: we don’t micromanage our team’s time. As a remote-first company, we know and expect that work and life intersect every day, and we respect everyone’s ability to manage both. We value our team and their lives away from work just as much as the amazing work they do.
What’s one thing fun or surprising/unexpected about you?
I really admire people who enjoy athletic activities. I wish I did, but I do not. That’s why my loved ones were surprised when I participated in my first breast cancer fundraising walk (breast cancer runs in my family). I walked 60 miles in three days and raised $20,000 with my team. It’s my greatest physical feat.
