Katie Huang Shin

President
An award-winning business communications leader with 25 years of marketing communications, management, and consulting experience, Katie has significant expertise in helping companies rebuild, repair, and regrow. As Big Valley Marketing’s President, Katie is responsible for leading the firm’s overall client experience, overseeing its Client Partners and Practice Leaders to ensure client service and success. A believer that communications should be a powerful vehicle for improving business competitiveness, Katie has advised technology industry leaders and challengers, helping them build their brands, strengthen their business resilience, and effectively communicate their propositions in a dynamic global environment. Notable clients include Avaya, Checkpoint Software, Cisco, Dell Technologies, Compaq/HP (pre-and post-merger)/Hewlett-Packard, Huawei Technologies, Huawei Symantec, Informatica, Intel, Lexmark, Nortel, Novell, Oracle, RSA, SAP, Visa, Tencent, and other technology disruptors and innovators. Before joining Big Valley Marketing, Katie was the President of AxiCom North America, WPP’s technology public relations specialty agency. During her tenure, she advised a range of clients on corporate and financial communications, global expansions, issues, crisis communications, and company positioning and executive communications. She also architected AxiCom North America’s transformation, elevated its client proposition, and improved client experience. Prior to overseeing AxiCom, Katie held executive positions at several world’s largest global public relations agencies, including WE Communications, FleishmanHillard, and Weber Shandwick. In addition to being responsible for leading multi-million-dollar businesses and clients, she managed office client teams across geographic regions on issues of international strategic communications, mergers and acquisitions, litigation communications, company turnaround and transformation, and organizational leadership and change. Earlier in her career, Katie also worked for award-winning technology communications boutiques. She and her teams developed and launched global public relations programs for many iconic technology brands. In 2021, Katie was a recipient of Regan and PR Daily’s “Top Women in Communications” award. Under her leadership, AxiCom North America was named PRNews’ Agency Elite Top 100, and WE Communications was Provoke Media’s 2019 Global SABRE Technology PR agency of the year. Katie received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Washington, a Master of Public Health degree in public health administration from San Jose State University, and a doctoral degree in organizational leadership, specializing in Total Quality Management (TQM) from the University of San Francisco. She is fluent in Chinese and has worked abroad in Asia Pacific.
