Megan Norman

Senior Research Manager
Megan Norman (M.S., Ph.D. Candidate) is passionate about using research to inform communications decisions and problem solving. As a social scientist, she has training in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and strongly believes in integrating both approaches to better understand insights, trends, and opportunities. Megan is finishing her Ph.D. in Mass Communications at Penn State University, where she focused on health media effects and strategic communication research. While at Penn State, she authored seven peer-reviewed academic articles, helped present over a dozen conference presentations, and received the Applied Urban Communication Research Grant. Originally from Minnesota, Megan lives with her husband in central Pennsylvania just down the road from Penn State’s main campus. When not behind a computer, you can find her outside hiking in the Allegheny mountains or playing in the vegetable garden.

Meet Megan

What do you do at Big Valley Marketing?
I’m a Senior Research Manager, which means that I develop, assist on, and support research projects for our clients and firm. Research is a powerful tool to provide insights that can inform strategies and decision making. My passion is taking academic research theories and methodologies and applying to them to the business landscape to provide value to clients. I enjoy thinking about how academic research can inform industry research and vice versa.

Why Big Valley Marketing?
I interned at Big Valley the summer before the last year of my Ph.D. program. I knew that I wanted to return as soon as possible. The collaborative work environment with people who are passionate about their daily work, along with the opportunity to conduct applied research drew me to work at Big Valley full time.

What’s one thing fun or surprising/unexpected about you?
All of my degrees are in different fields. I have a B.A. in Spanish with a minor in Integrated Science, a Master’s of Science in Rhetoric, Theory and Culture, and a Ph.D. in Mass Communications (expected August 2025). I have a love for learning and a deep appreciation for how knowledge is constructed, challenged, and shared across epistemological viewpoints and disciplines. With my own interdisciplinary background, I love working with people from different disciplines and content backgrounds and figuring out how we can leverage our shared goals and strengths!

Helping technology companies for ten years
to grow, win, and lead through effective,
expert-driven marketing and communications.
