Tod Freeman

Client Partner
With more than 35 years of experience across strategic consulting, corporate leadership, and journalism, Tod Freeman is a master at scaling reputations for infrastructure and enterprise technology brands. A seasoned communications strategist who thrives at the intersection of complex technology and market narrative, Tod spent a decade as a journalist and producer before transitioning into corporate communications roles at global powerhouses like Sony, Barclays, and IBM. Tod serves as a trusted advisor to C-suite executives, navigating high-stakes transitions, mergers and acquisitions, successful NYSE IPOs, and large-scale product launches. His work is defined by an ability to translate technical infrastructure into compelling human stories, a skill exemplified by his award-winning IBM "Smarter Buildings" global initiative, which repositioned complex concepts through the lens of efficiency and sustainability. Tod is perhaps best known for his pioneering work in AI category creation. He led the global communications launch for the commercialization of IBM Watson, successfully establishing IBM as the definitive leader in enterprise AI. Throughout his career, he has partnered with industry leaders including Intel, Samsung, Dell Technologies Infrastructure Solutions Group, RSA Security, Proofpoint, and D-Wave. Whether directing internal communications for financial giants like Barclays or serving as a corporate spokesperson for Sony during the iconic launch of the AIBO robot dog, Tod’s career has remained at the vanguard of innovation. Now based in Boulder, Tod brings a "futurist" lens to his work and teams, blending decades of human experience and client success with cutting-edge AI tools to drive efficiency and fresh thinking for clients. This forward-looking approach is grounded in the storytelling discipline and media rigor he first honed in the newsroom, ensuring that every narrative is as precise as it is impactful.

What do you do at Big Valley Marketing?
As a Client Partner, I act as a strategic navigator for our clients, helping them bridge the gap between complex technical innovation and meaningful business outcomes. I draw on my experience to ensure we are deploying the right experts—from media relations to digital strategy—to solve our clients’ most pressing reputation and growth challenges.

Why Big Valley Marketing?
Throughout my career at global firms, I’ve found that the most impactful work happens when you strip away the bureaucracy and focus on expert-driven strategy. Big Valley’s model allows me to apply my background in AI category creation and reputation management in a highly focused, agile environment that truly understands the nuances of B2B technology.

What’s one thing fun or surprising/unexpected about you?
In my career, I’ve had the opportunity to live and work in New York City, Silicon Valley and Austin.  My journey across the country eventually led me to Boulder, Colorado, which I now call home. On the weekends, you can usually find me taking full advantage of the Rockies, whether I’m hiking the local trails or fly fishing in a nearby stream.

Helping technology companies for ten years
to grow, win, and lead through effective,
expert-driven marketing and communications.
