Supply Chain in the Spotlight
Welcome to Top Conversations in Tech, where we isolate the hottest trends, falling stars and shifting market dynamics to help technology marketers maximize their relevance. This month’s data reflects news and blog citations in April 2025 versus March 2025 and April 2024. We currently monitor 270+ topics, with data and insights going back to March 2019.
April 2025 might go down in history as one of the most uncertain months in modern US history. Tariffs, job security and the economy at large became the focal points for April, leading to a pause and decrease in a number of technology topics. In fact, only 35% experienced an increase in conversation month-over-month. The top 10 varied only in position. #1 Artificial Intelligence remained at #1 despite a 10% decrease from March 2025. #4 Supply Chain jumping up from its #6 ranking in March. #6 Smartphone also increased in position, jumping from #10 in March because of a 4% increase.
AI Agents continues to win against Generative AI.
Last month, AI agents and GenAI battled for attention. This month, #17 AI Agents continued to outshine #23 Generative AI. A quick flashback to 2024: AI agents garnered just over 2K+ articles in April 2024, which accounted for just a fraction of the 66K+ articles in April 2-2025. In contrast, #23 Generative AI is a story of decline. The topic is down 52% from 2024 and 9% from March 2025.
#4 Supply Chain’s rank increased +2 ranks the same month over month due to an 8% increase from March.
The #4 Supply Chain topic has had a unique coverage year. As a reminder, supply chain increased from January to February and then experienced a decrease from February to March. In April, #4 Supply Chain experienced another increase because of the changes to the tariff news and the following global market drop.
Tariff concerns included example implications for specific types of technology, like Apple smartphones. Thus, #6 Smartphone also experienced an increase from March, benefitting from the increase in #4 Supply Chain.
Both User Experience and Digital Transformation stayed in the top 10 for April.
Though both topics dropped a ranking, both topics stayed in the top 10 at #9 and #10 respectively.
Top Conversation’s Biggest Gains
#43 Machine Learning + Security continued to increase, particularly around the importance of machine learning in security to thwart data breaches. As a reminder, the topic experienced a 410% increase from February to March; from March to April, the topic experienced a 330% increase. #196 IT Service Management experienced the next greatest increase (88%) in part because of a ServiceNow announcement regarding its platform integration and expansion.
Top Conversation’s Biggest Losses
#179 Cloud Applications dropped 55% (from 1.5K to 3.5K)—the biggest loss from March. #137 AI Networking, #198 Fixed Wireless, #142 Network Operations, #112 Edge Computing, and #146 Network Monitoring all experienced at least a 40% decrease from the previous month.
Top Takeaways
1. Topics aren’t siloed. Supply chain coverage contributed to an increase in smartphone coverage. The question becomes: what other, perhaps bigger, topic(s) drive the conversations you care about most?
2. From 2024 to 2025, attention shifted from GenAI to AI Agents. Technology and trends will evolve. How are you tracking the topics over time—especially those where advancement is the bedrock of attention and interest?
What macro topic will increase? Will we see another correlation across a micro topic? Will #8 User Experience and #9 Digital Transformation stay in the top 10 for May? Stay tuned!
